How could you use Kahoot quizzes to support, challenge and assess learners in your classroom?

Kahoot Screens

Before you begin reading this post, if you're not familiar with Kahoot, please visit our 'What is a Kahoot Quiz and how does it work?' blog post. If you are, please read on.

Below are a range of ideas and examples of quizzes created for schools I’ve previously supported. I welcome you to duplicate and edit any that may be useful to you and your learners.

Maths Kahoot Quizzes

Setup a maths quiz testing children’s attainment around a certain topic or area of the curriculum as a starter and/or plenary. Challenge pupils by limiting the time they have to answer questions and get them to compete with others by enabling the streak bonus and podium in the game options. Ideally, children will have a device each - using different device types (e.g. a mix of tablets and laptops) in the same game is fine.

However, if you don't have the luxury of 1:1 devices, you could ask children to compete as teams by selecting Team mode.

When setting up each of the Kahoot games provided, please be sure to select ‘randomise order of questions’ and ‘randomise order of answers’ from the game options. I also recommend  selecting ‘display game PIN throughout’ so that if children accidentally close the webpage or lose connection they can re-enter the game.

Literacy and Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) Kahoot Quizzes

Use Kahoot quizzes to teach and assess children’s SPaG in an exciting new way. Here are a few examples of quizzes I created for a year 2 class I worked with:

Kahoot user ‘shoesarefab’ created a comprehensive and brilliant SPaG quiz for year 6 children. Follow the link to duplicate and edit it and/or play it with your learners.

You could also use a Kahoot quiz to assess a child’s reading comprehension of a text in terms of their literal retrieval, their ability to identify key language features used within the text, and their inference skills amongst a set of choices.

Below is a great example of a reading comprehension Kahoot quiz created by the Kahoot team that you could use as inspiration for creating your own comprehension challenges.

Kahoot quizzes offer an alternative approach to spelling too. Present children with up to 4 versions of a written word and challenge them to identify the correct one using the strategies taught in class. Naturally, it could also be used to assess children’s spelling.

Science and Foundation Subject Kahoot Quizzes

Below are a few Kahoot quizzes I have either created or used in Science and Foundation subjects. Use them as with your own children or to give you inspiration for creating your own Kahoots.

Hopefully you have found the examples and resources provided in this blog useful and you're feeling inspired to create your own. How do you plan to use Kahoot quizzes with your own learners? Let us know in the comments.

Happy teaching!
