Funded STEM Workshops

Funded STEM Workshops

How to Apply

Hyett Education are extremely proud to be STEM delivery partners with the Royal Air Force and Defence Nuclear Enterprise. These organisations provide us with the funding to source eligible schools across the UK and deliver STEM workshops that are free to schools.

The eligibility criteria changes throughout the year as we target different areas and cohorts of children, so even if you are not eligible right now, it is still worth making an application.

Please read the information below to fine out more and scroll to the bottom of the page to make a quick application.

RAF Mighty Minds funded by RAF Youth & STEM (Y5-Y8)

We are proud to be RAF STEM Education Partners, representing the Royal Air Force’s Youth & STEM team in schools since 2018.

Every year the RAF funds an incredible range of STEM experiences for students with the intention of sparking an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths.

In the academic year of 2022-2023 we delivered around 50 funded workshops on behalf of the RAF to students around the UK. This incredible program reached 4000 students through the RAF Mighty Minds Robotics challenge and Drone Coding Challenge.

This funding is predominantly aimed at reaching students in Year 5 to Year 8, with a particular desire to encourage STEM participation of underrepresented communities in STEM fields, such as girls, ethnic minority background students, and disadvantaged students.

Funding is allocated regionally and may not be available in your area at the time of application. However, when funding is allocated to your area we source schools from the list of applicants that best meet the RAF’s funding criteria.

Successful Applicants

If your application has been successful, you will have been contacted by one of our team to invite you to book a place from our schedule of events. The email you receive will tell you which provider has funded your workshop (either RAF or DNE/Eko) and given a password to make your booking.

Please click the appropriate button below according to that information and book your date. Direct any queries or requests for support to jenni@hyetteducation.com.

EKO funded by Defence Nuclear Enterprise (Y3-Y9)

In 2023, The Defence Nuclear Enterprise launched their EKO program with the intention to provide students with a fun, educational experience with the aim of encouraging wider participation in STEM subjects.

This program also aims to create a greater awareness of career opportunities that are aligned to STEM, some of which they may not even be aware of.

Funding is allocated by location and aimed at students in disadvantaged areas. Again, there is an effort to reach students in under-represented communities in STEM fields.

Students taking part in the EKO Robotics Challenge delivered by Hyett Education will build and code robots to complete a range of missions linked to various STEM themes. The challenges will encourage teamwork, problem-solving, creative thinking and coding/cyber skills.

Successful applicant schools will receive a fully-funded workshop for 60-120 students in a single day.

Make a quick application below if your school is eligible and you’d like the chance to receive a fully-funded EKO workshop.

What funding do we have currently or upcoming?

We receive funding for various areas throughout the school year. If your area is not targeted in current or upcoming funding, please do not let this deter you from making an application. Application Form

Please use the form below to apply for a funded workshop. Funding will be allocated based on the RAF’s or DNE’s target areas and eligibility criteria. Targeted areas change throughout the year and eligibility criteria may also change (e.g. the age group of targeted students).

Do not refresh the page until after you have pressed ‘submit’ on the application form. Refreshing the page mid application may result in your application failing to save and will require you to re-enter the details again in full.

An application does not guarantee success. We typically receive 25 applications for each funded workshop we deliver. If you are looking to guarantee a STEM workshop booking, please visit the ‘School Workshops’ tab on this website and make an enquiry or booking via the button on that page.

Making a non-funded booking with Hyett Education does not exclude your school from receiving a funded workshop, nor does it harm or reduce the chances of your school’s application. Each application is assessed on its own merit.

The data provided via this application will only ever be used for the purposes of assessing your application and making contact for the purposes of the funded workshops. The RAF and DNE will be provided with limited access to the data of shortlisted schools for the purpose of making a final decision on eligibility. No data provided by you in this application will ever be shared with a third party.
