Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to making this website accessible to all users.

Last updated: February 2026

Our Commitment

Hyett Education is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, which is the standard recommended by the UK government for public-facing websites.

We believe that inclusive design benefits all users, not just those with specific access needs. Our website is designed and built to work well for as many people as possible.

Accessibility Features

We have implemented the following accessibility features across this website:

  • Semantic HTML: All pages use proper heading hierarchy, landmarks, and semantic elements to support assistive technology.
  • Keyboard navigation: Every interactive element on the site can be accessed and operated using a keyboard alone.
  • Skip links: A skip-to-content link is provided on every page so keyboard users can bypass the navigation.
  • ARIA attributes: ARIA labels, roles, and states are used where native HTML semantics are not sufficient, including for the mobile menu and interactive components.
  • Alt text: All meaningful images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images are hidden from assistive technology using aria-hidden.
  • Colour contrast: Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast ratio requirements against their backgrounds.
  • Responsive design: The site works across all screen sizes and orientations, from mobile phones to large desktop monitors.
  • Reduced motion: Animations and transitions respect the prefers-reduced-motion setting for users who find motion uncomfortable.
  • Focus indicators: Visible focus outlines are provided on all interactive elements for keyboard users.
  • Language support: The site is available in English and Welsh (Cymraeg), with correct lang attributes set for each language.

Standards

This website aims to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. WCAG is the internationally recognised set of guidelines for making web content accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive impairments.

Testing

We test accessibility using a combination of automated tools and manual checks. Automated testing is carried out using axe and Lighthouse. Manual testing includes keyboard-only navigation, screen reader testing, and visual inspection of colour contrast and focus indicators.

We review the accessibility of the site regularly, including whenever significant new content or features are added.

Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, some third-party content or embedded elements (such as external video players or map widgets) may not fully meet WCAG standards. We work to minimise these issues and provide alternative access routes where possible.
