Introduction to Teaching Coding in Primary CPD

This course can be delivered as INSET or a series of staff meetings. It’s aimed at teachers that are low on confidence or lacking the required skills to teach coding in to the computing curriculum in key stage 1 and key stage 2.

We’ll spend time exploring some of the language that is used in the computing curriculum documents and outline in simple terms what these mean.

Then we’ll get into coding at a basic level by taking part in some ‘unplugged’ coding tasks. This means coding without computers and getting participants to think like coders.

After this, teachers will be introduced to a range of easy-to-use software that is great for learning and teaching coding. Teachers will be given a range of tutorials and challenges to improve their knowledge and skill on the course by taking part in activities that can later be used in the classroom.
