A History of Innovation
Milton Keynes was designated as a new town in 1967 and has been shaped by innovation from its very inception. The area's most famous STEM heritage lies in Bletchley Park, where during the Second World War codebreakers including Alan Turing cracked the Enigma code and developed Colossus, the world's first programmable electronic computer. This wartime effort, estimated to have shortened the war by two years, established the region as a birthplace of modern computing.
