Trip hazard / Available space	Young people to be grouped onto specific tables / into specific areas. Young people to be discouraged from moving around the room unnecessarily. Fire safety / evacuation	Equipment, cases and cables to be positioned so that exits, walkways and fire points (extinguishers and alarm call points) remain clear at all times. Choking hazard	Encourage young people to ask for help when separating electrical components or any other components that may be difficult. Young people to be reminded never to use their mouths to separate components.	Low	On the day of the event
Battery burn / fire / electrical shock	AA rechargeable batteries to be checked by the session leader to ensure no damage, bulging or cracks. Hyett Education session leader to ensure safe storage and proper charging of batteries. As all batteries are of AA type, there is no risk of electrical shock. No mains electricity is used. Trapped / pinched fingers	Hyett Education to provide a clear demonstration of how to connect/disconnect electrical components. Correct use of motors/attachments to be demonstrated to minimise the risk of fingers being pinched or caught in moving components.	Low	On the day of the event
Spinning / "lift off" components	If "lift off" rotors or spinning fan components are part of the workshop, an additional safety briefing to be provided, and young people directed to keep clear of the launch path and not to lean over spinning parts.	Low	On the day of the event

Manual handling of equipment	Instructors are provided with HSE guidance on manual handling and are encouraged to ask for any support or further clarification. Instructors should park as close to the venue as possible, even if temporarily, for loading/unloading of equipment. Use of trolleys or other aids for heavy/large items, using step-free routes where possible. Break down large loads into smaller, manageable parts where possible.
